My Dear Brothers in Lord,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and redeemer Jesus Christ. A very Happy and Blessed New Year to you all. I am indeed grateful to God for yet another opportunity to enter into a new year.  Let us thank and praise God for his care, protection and blessings that He has given to us. Let us thank God for the mercy He has showered upon us. Our God is the Lord and commander of all the nations and the people. God wanted all people to obey his commandments, but from the beginning the disobedience of man created problems, troubles and destruction. So this is the time to give attention of God's commandments, we the people of the new covenant have reached the New Year; this is the time of renewing the covenant. Covenant among people and nations were prevalent from time immemorial. A covenant is an agreement, which involves two parties either between people, or between God and a person or a group of people. In our context covenant means an agreement believed to be the basis of a relationship of commitment between God and His people.

As we are at the threshold of a New Year, let us have a retrospection. Retrospection always follows introspection. What the Lord has done in our lives forces us to stand in awe and reverence before him. What are the new resolutions we need to take in this New Year? The covenant has created a new relationship between God and his people. When we were 'no people', He took initiative to make us God's own people. God expects from us faithfulness. Abraham obeyed God and he was called the father of the Faithful. Are we faithful?

New covenant also involves a new resolution to journey with the Lord forgetting the past. Holding our hands in His hand provides security in the hustle and bustle of this world, which we journey forward. Abraham not knew where he was going. Let us affirm the prayer "O God, Alpha and Omega, your grace, love and providence has encompassed us this far. Grant us strength to live in the covenantal relationship with you every day in this year and the years to come."

WISH YOU ALL A BLESSED NEW YEAR!

Johny Achen
